Why we love our Quilting Group

The Maleny Arts and Crafts (MACG) Quilting Group has approximately 40 quilters, and is one of the largest sub-groups in the MACG Organisation. The quilting group is a self-help group and the skills of its members range from award winning quilters to those who are just beginning their quilting journey.  The quilters meet weekly and members undertake their own varied projects. Although primarily a quilting group, the quilts which are made range from babies quilts, lap quilts through to king size quilts, our quilters also make many other sewn items which can range from bags, table runners and place mats to cushions.

The MACG quilters present a Quilt Show once every two years where we display some of our work, in addition to making and raffling a quilt, with all monies raised going back to the MACG organisation. In addition the quilters make a raffle quilt for the annual MACG Autumn Fair.

Each year a number of our quilters make quilts, and other various items, which are donated to the Downs and West Community Support Organisation from where they are distributed and given to farming families in the southern and western areas of Queensland. Although most quilters donate their own resources for the majority of our donations, our work in this area is assisted by receiving donated fabric from members of the public, and a roll of wadding from the MACG members.

As a group we have a weekly meeting, a morning tea roster and we celebrate our fellow quilter’s birthdays.
